beat the smoking ban!The UK smoking ban was fully launched on July 1st 2007. Many studies have been carried out on the economic effects of the smoking ban. The majority of reports have found that there is no negative economic impact associated with the smoking ban, with many even saying the ban can be a positive impact on local businesses.
However the smoking ban has been accused of affecting a number of businesses negatively in the following ways:
- The British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA) have claimed that beer sales across the UK are at their lowest levels since the 1930s, with many people blaming the smoking ban.
- The smoking ban has also been partly blamed for Sports Cafe bars group closing down.
- Punch Taverns (Britain's biggest pub operator) have reported an estimated 5% decline in trading throughout the busy Christmas period.
- The number of Bingo hall customers has declined by 600,000 since the introduction of the smoking ban, with many bingo halls now facing closure.
